NYT1X-AP & NYT2X-AP

Product Description

The NYT1X-AP and NYT2X-AP Machine Controls are full-featured, din rail (or open PCB) mounted, one or two axis machine controls.  The units operate in stand-alone mode with stored programs or in a distributed environment hosted by a Programmable Controller or PC running National Instruments LabView, Visual Basic or C++.  Standard communication interfaces include RS232, RS485 and CAN. 

The NYT1X-AP and NYT2X-AP are an ideal base controller for daisy chained IBL drive/controllers, additional NYT controls, integrated motor/drive/controllers and 3d party CAN and/or S485
 devices.   

The 
NYT1X-AP has a single socket and the NYT2X-AP has two sockets for Technosoft Motion PIM2403 modules or Trinamic TMCM-103 modules.  All module pins are brought out to correctly sized screw terminals, Molex or Amp connectors.  On board communications include USB or RS232, CAN and RS485.  The units allow pass thru communication directly with individual PIM2403 or TMCM-103 modules or with an integrated ATMEGA64 microcontroller with up to 2 Mbytes of addition flash program memory.  


PIM2403 OEM Module Features
  • Fully digital servo amplifier or microstepping drive with embedded intelligence and PLC functionality
  • Suitable for brushless or brushed DC servo motors, step motors and step linear actuators 
  • Control modes include:
    • Torque, speed or position control
    • Electronic gearing, contouring, profiling
    • Step motor emulation (step and direction input)
    • External control variables (pressure, flow, temperature etc.)
  • Powerful Technosoft Motion Language (TML) instruction set for definition and execution of motion sequences in:
    • Single- or multi-axis control (master or slave mode)
    • Standalone operation with Stored Motion sequences
  • RS232 or RS485 serial communication.  Automatic - intelligent recognition of communication type.   
  • CAN bus 2.0B, up to 1 Mbit/s, or CANopen bus
  • Programmable digital input / outputs and analog inputs.  (Note 1)
    • 5 inputs, 5-V or 24-V compatible (Enable, Pulse and Direction, Limit Switches)
    • 2 outputs, 5-V or 24-V compatible (Ready, GPO)
    • Differential quadrature encoder and Hall sensors interface
    • Linear Hall sensors
    • 2 analog inputs, +/-10 V or 0/+5 V range
  • Single power supply (12-24 V)
  • High current capability
    • PIM2403:  3A rms / 6A peak
    • PIM2401:  1A rms / 3A peak
    • TMCM-103:  2A rms / 2.8A peak (Note 2)
  • Protection to over current, short-circuit, earth fault, over- and under voltage, I2t, control error
Note 1:  The IO for one or both plug-in drives brought out to individual connectors and screw terminals.  
Note 2:  The TMCM-103 is a pin compatible /64 microstepping unit.  
 
What makes the NYT1X and 2X-AP a sound approach for new equipment designs?  Three case studies follow:


Case # 1:  An innovative manufacturer with an electrical engineering and programming staff can and in many cases should buy and build at the IC and module level.  Buying right is critically important and if the production volumes are reasonable an in-house make decision is a sound one.  

In these applications, NYT modules are an ideal means to prototype with and quickly deploy preproduction units featuring Technosoft PIM2401, PIM2403 or TMCM-103 modules.  

  • NYT1X-AP and NYT2X-AP are stock machine controllers featuring one or two stepper or servo axis offered with a 12 month warranty and on-going hardware and software support.
  • Technosoft or Trinamic modules, purchased from Nymotion LLC, and used in NYT machine controls share the 12 month warranty and on-going hardware and software support. 
  • In production OEM applications, Nymotion quotes OEM specific versions of NYT machine controls.  Custom layouts, IO, OEM harnessing, with 100% testing and burn-in. 

  • Our experienced software and hardware engineering supports and compliments in-house OEM resources. 

Case # 2:  The same manufacturer discussed above or a new enterprise has identified and developed specifications for a promising new equipment niche.  Potential sales look promising but customer feedback and in-field trials are required to refine a ground breaking (for example) sensor technology.  In this example, the sensor technology is the critical path rather than the machine controller.  The critical path ?makes or breaks? a development cycle and in some cases the business enterprise.  In this context, the "make or buy" decision becomes a very serious decision.

  • Having the resources and the knowledge to design, develop and prototype motion control drive/controls from scratch doesn't make this decision the right one.  In too many cases "make decisions" are driven by what "we can make" rather then what "needs to be made".  The side of the road is littered with lost opportunities and time sinks where money and time were diverted from the critical path to important but trivial machine and motion control elements of the design.  

  • Using microfluidics as an example, moving a well plate or a dispensing head from point to point in a LabView environment is trivial.  It takes time, testing and money to do it right but the designs are straight forward.  If the critical path is developing an optical train for a new electroluminescence imaging device that views the contents of a biological reaction in a well plate cell ... the vast majority of resources should be invested on this critical path.
  • Focus scarce and valuable in-house engineering resources on the critical path.
Case # 3:  If drives, motion controls and motion mechanics are not a core competency investigate full support, OEM solution providers like Nymotion LLC and buy a turn-key machine control or mechatronic subassembly.   Nymotion references for OEM drives, drive/controllers and mechatronic subassemlies are available on request.
